Bridge City
Rachel Ann Burton Wheeler, 60, of Bridge City passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at her home in Harper, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 21 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with the Rev. Francis Schroeder, pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rachel was born July 16, 1950 in Port Arthur to O.W. Burton Jr. and Annie Mitschke Burton. She was an area resident and lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, but was part of the Hill Country since she was a child. She was a rancher and second generation owner of Burton Shipyard. An avid horse lover, she competed in many horse shows in her youth. She and her husband were brought together by horses. She wanted to be known for her extraordinary Axis deer. She was a lifetime member of the Exotic Wildlife Association and loved to travel. Some of her better memories were of her time spent in Mexico.

She was loved and survived by many include her loving husband of 34 years, Jesse Wheeler of Harper; daughter, Anna Wheeler of Bridge City; son, Daniel Wheeler of Bridge City; stepson, Lee Wheeler and wife, Millette of Lumberton; brother, Carl Burton and wife, Linda of Junction; two grandchildren, Jake Wheeler and Cole Wheeler; her special friends, cats, Spookie and Beadie and her bird, Buddy.

Pallbearers will be Fred Burton, Jim Teinert, John Burton, Craig Miller, Ron Moerbe, and Scott Burton. Honorary pallbearers will be Maldred Chauvin and Hans Schulz.
