Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center held its annual Autumn Fair on Saturday, Nov. 13, and winning scarecrow designs from the Scarecrow Festival were announced. Winners were chosen by visitors who voted for their favorite scarecrow after touring Shangri La. Over 100 local businesses, organizations, schools, families and individuals made this year’s event the largest gathering of scarecrows in Texas.

Scarecrows will continue to be on view throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with the last day for touring on Saturday, Nov. 27. Spend the holiday weekend with friends, family and out-of-town guests to see the beauty and excitement found in Orange County.

Results of 2nd Annual Scarecrow Festival at Shangri La are as follows.

Business Division:
1st Place – Claybar Funeral Home and Floral Shop (Composting)

Church Division:
1st Place – Methodist Youth Fellowship First United Methodist Church (Oscar Made Anew)

3rd Place – Trinity Lutheran Church (Guardian Angel)

1st Place – Watson/Wheeler Family (Sleeping on the Job)
2nd Place – Mazzola Family
3rd Place – The Childer’s Family (Childers Family Fun)

1st Place – Orange Fire Department (All in a Day’s Work)
2nd Place – South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (Crowella)
3rd Place – Orange County Friends (Orange County Friends)

School Division:
1st Place – Little Cypress Junior High Art Club (Mad Hatter)
2nd Place – Bridge City High School Art Club
3rd Place – Orangefield High School Life Skills

Directors Awards, chosen by Shangri La’s staff, were given to the Golden Triangle Sierra Club, Soutex Surveyors, The Woods Family and Ivy League Garden Club for their commitment to meeting Shangri La’s mission in their scarecrow designs.
