OC Retired Teachers to meet Dec. 13

The next meeting of the Orange County Retired Teachers Association (OCRTA) will be held on Monday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 37th Street in Orange.
The Christmas program will be presented by the Bridge City High Cardinal Singers, under the direction of Tina Bernard. There will be a covered dish luncheon after the meeting. Members are requested to bring new stuffed animals or toys for CASA and children’s books for the TRTA Book Drive.

Orange VFW to host Christmas Party on Dec. 8

Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2775 and The Ladies Auxiliary will host the annual Christmas Party for members children and grandchildren up to the age of 12 years on Friday, Dec. 8 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the post home at 5303 16th Street (Highway 87 North).
All children must be registered at the post no later than Friday, Dec. 3. A sign up sheet is in the clubroom, which opens at 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is requested a parent or guardian accompany their child. Santa, gifts and refreshements will be furnished by the post. Southeast Texas Hospice to host open house and Toilet Paper Tea

Southeast Texas Hospice, located at 912 West Cherry Street in Orange, is hosting an open house and Toilet Paper Tea on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All are invited and encouraged to bring one of the following items to help stock the Hospice’s shelves for the New Year:
Plastic garbage bags, paper towels, ziplock bags, aluminum foil, cleaning supplies, toilet papers, dishwasher soap, light bulbs, solid air freshener, coffee, sugar, creamer, scotch tape, index cards, black pens or copier paper. Cash donations are also welcome.

LCM High School launches annual cheese log sale

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Life Skills Class has launched its annual cheese log sale; something many parents, staff and community members look forward to each Christmas season. The logs are available in cheddar and jalapeno and sell for $6.75 each. The class raises funds through this sale for educational field trips and other enrichment projects.

Starks Memorial VFW to host dance on Dec. 18

Starks Memorial VFW- 4402 Hwy 12 in Starks, La. will host a dance on Dec. 18 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Timmy Dugas & Zydecane, Special guest Sean Vidrine & some of his band DaClassic’s, Swamp Pop, country, blues, cajun and more will be featured. Orange boat club christmas party

The Orange Boat Club will be holding its annual Christmas Dance on Saturday Dec. 11 at at 8 p.m. at the Boat Club facility located at 2206 Dupont Drive. Live music is planned featuring the Red Bone Cookin’ band. Admission will be donations of five can goods or non-perishable food items per member and invited guests. Come and have a great adult time and contribute to a good cause! Cash donations will be accepted in lieu of food donations. Members or friends not attending the dance can bring can contribute goods or cash donations in advance. Finger foods and deserts are welcome!

Bridge City Band meeting moved to Dec. 7

BC High School Cheerleaders to sponsor safe New Year’s Eve lock-in

The Bridge City High School Cheerleaders are hosting a New Year’s Eve lock-in for children in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. This lock-in is a fundraiser for a cheerleading trip to Hawaii this summer and it provides a safe, guilt-free New Year’s Eve to parents.
The lock-in will take place in The Next Level Gym in Bridge City and the doors will open at 7 a.m. Children need to be picked up by 8 a.m. the following morning.
Pizza and drinks will be served for dinner and donuts will be served for breakfast. Snacks and extra drinks may be purchased all night long for $1 each at the Hawaiian Snack Shack. New Year’s trinkets will be for sale and photos with a cheerleader may be purchased for $10. The photos will be ready to take home that morning.

 The Counselor’s Office at Bridge City High School has graduation photographs of prior students who ordered picture packages but failed to pick them up.  You may visit our website at www.bridgecityisd.net for a list of students for whom we have pictures or call 409-735-1539 for more information.  Pictures will be discarded after Jan. 31, 2011.

BCHS to host 4th annual ‘Symphony of Trees’

For the past four years, each club/organization at Bridge City High School has decorated a tree and chosen a charity to support.  This year they are seeking “sponsors”($50) to more effectively raise money for each of the chosen charities. Each tree will have a card detailing the club/organization, sponsor, and charity.  Last year we had over 30 trees with 30 different local, national, as well as international charities helped.

The trees will be on display for the Chamber Breakfast on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at BCHS. All  sponsors are asked to attend to choose their “favorites” for school braggin’ rights. 

LCM-CISD to hold meetings on limited open enrollment

Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD will hold two informational meetings to explain and answer questions concerning the new limited open enrollment program that will begin in January 2011. 
Both meetings will cover the same information, but two times and locations are scheduled for the convenience of those wishing to attend. The first is on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. in the LCM High School Auditorium. The second is on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. in the Mauriceville Middle School Cafeteria.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in better understanding the limited open enrollment program, whether or not the interest is due to having a child you would like to enroll, or to be better informed as a community member.

LSC-PA will present unique piano concert

Don Irwin, a member of the Steinway & Sons distinguished international artists roster, will play a special Christmas concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, in the theater of the Lamar State College-Port Arthur Performing Arts Center, 1700 Procter Street.
Irwin’s concerts are a departure from most classical pianists because he also is a former studio musician who played on songs for pop artists such as Donna Summer and Prince. As a result, Irwin incorporates non-classical music and original compositions into his performances.
Irwin has released 20 CDs. The most recent, Encore, includes classical works by Chopin and Beethoven; songs from the movies Warsaw Concerto, Dr. Zhivago and Exodus; a medley of well-known American patriotic songs; and a medley of songs made famous by Frank Sinatra.
Tickets will be available at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Orange VFW to host Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony

Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 will host a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony on December 5th at 2 p.m.  Post Chaplain, Harold ‘Hank’ Perkins will officiate.  The service will take place at the Monument at the front of the VFW parking lot, located at 5303 North 16th Street.  If raining, the service will take place inside the hall.  All veterans and public are invited to attend the short service.

Hunter Education Safety Class

Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Home Study Safety Class Field part will be taught Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Orange. You must complete the online home study computer sections, print completed test and bring them to class. Call Danny Odom to register at 409-883-8118.
This class is not just for hunters. Anyone who handles firearms can benefit from it.

Delta Kappa Gamma initiation ceremony set for Dec. 7

The initiation ceremony for Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the Sunset Grove Country Club.
This event will begin a 6:30 p.m. and will be hosted by the three chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma which are Theta, Theta Omega, and Theta Psi. Olga Graham, Coordinating Council Chairman, will preside over the ceremony. Special guests include Alpha State President Vickie Davis and Area II Coordinator, Bobbie Fagan.
A buffet will be served after the initiation ceremony. Chapter members may contact their chapter presidents for more information.

VFW Post 2775 Ladies Auxiliary to host Christmas Pary

Orange Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2775 Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual auxiliary members Christmas Party at the home of Patricia Kemp, 4700 London Circle in Orange, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Members attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a wrapped or bagged gift valued at $10. The regular meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 7 has been cancelled. All auxiliary members are invited to attend.

West Orange Chiefs to host Christmas dance

The West Orange High School Chief’s Christmas Dance will be held Saturday, Dec. 18 at the American Legion in Orange. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a social beginning at 7 p.m. and the dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Music will be provided by the Ken Marvel Band, playing Swamp Pop and Southeast Texas “across the river” music.
Cost is $10 per person, casual attire, bring your own bottle and snacks are welcome. A car bar with setups and beer will be available.
The dance is open to the public.
