The Celebration of Life for Mr. Jesse Clarence (J.C.) Jones, 78 of Orange will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie A.E.Crockett, Sr., pastor, will officiate. Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

He died November 21, at Orange Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Boyce, LA, he resided in Orange 75 years. A 1951 graduate of Emma H. Wallace High School, he was also a 1955 graduate of Prairie View A & M University where he was an All American football player. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was Discharged with Honors. He was the first African American police officer in the City of Orange and also the first African American security guard at the E.I. DuPont Sabine River Works Plant. For a number of years he owned and operated “Jerry’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers”.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jones of Orange, 5 sons, Stephon Gaines of Monteca, CA, Simon Bartie of Houston, TX, Michael Morris and Bryan Robertson, both of Beaumont, TX, and Willie Robertson of Orange, 4 daughters, Dr. Tasha Dean of California, and Jackie Netherly, Sylvia Sezar and Monica Lopez, all of Orange, 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
