The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bear

Iron Powerlifting Team brought some of their top lifters to the West

Brook Bruin Invitational on Saturday. The meet was comprised of 250 of

the top lifters in the region. Eleven of the 12 team members that

participated earned medals.

Kelly Kaufman and Travis White

finishing in 5th place, Coleton Boudreaux coming in 4th, Simone Mullins,

Cameron Allen, and Zach Thomas finishing in 3rd place, and Patrick

Herfurth coming in 2nd.

Those winning their individual weight

classes were junior Maygan Crosslin – Girls 165’s, senior Nick Dockens –

Boys 165’s, senior J.C. Fontenot – Boys 198’s, and junior Mitchell

Jennings – Boys 220’s.

The LCM boys team managed to hold off more

than a dozen other schools to finish atop the medal count and bring

home a first place trophy for their efforts. This is quite an

accomplishment with the level of talent that is at the West Brook meet

year in and year out.

Coach Reed said, “We could not be more

thrilled with how well our kids are performing. We knew we had a chance

to win the boys meet at West Brook, but it takes everyone going out

there and performing at their best.”

When asked who stood out at

the meet Coach Reed replied, “Everyone knows how strong J.C. Fontenot,

Nick Dockens, Maygan Crosslin, and Raven Cole are (all ranked in top

three in the state), but some standouts Saturday were Mitchell Jennings,

Coleton Boudreaux, Cameron Allen, Travis White, and Patrick Herfurth in

the boys division and Kelly Kaufman and Simone Mullins on the girls

side. These kids are really coming into their own as lifters and are all

on track to be regional qualifiers if they keep up the good work. They

are doing a phenomenal job.”
