The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, will offer free art classes for children in a new program called Art Quest. The classes will be available for students in grades 1-8 and will take place on March 8, 9, and 11, during the week of Orange County public school spring break. All Art Quest participants will learn about the paintings and sculptures at the Museum and gain hands-on experience making art inspired by the collection. Advance registration is required and application forms are available for download online at Application forms are due by March 4 and class space is limited.

Children in grades 1-2 will be offered “Squiggles and Swirls,” a shapes class, on March 8 and “Crazy Clay,” a ceramics class, on March 9. Both classes are 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Children in grades 3-5 may participate in “Tall Tales,” a storytelling session on March 8 from 1 – 4 p.m. On March 11, this age group can also take part in “Art for Giants,” a supersized art class from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Classes for children in grades 6-8 include “Thirst for 3-D,” a sculpture course, on March 9 and “Animal Adventure,” on March 11. These courses will take place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Amelia Wiggins, Educator for Public Programs at Stark Museum of Art, encourages local families to sign up for Art Quest soon: “We have had many requests from parents to provide extra-curricular art classes for their children, and we are very excited to be able to offer this experience through Art Quest. We encourage parents to apply early by filling out the form available on our website.” Wiggins says that classes will be kept to a maximum of 20 students each, and sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
