2011 pound weight loss challenge issued
Greg the trainer has initiated a challenge to Bridge City and Orange County residents to lose 2011 pounds collectively from Jan. 1, 2011 thru April 1, 2011. He is providing full support for individual success and has prizes from the community to be awarded each month for the greatest monthly loser. BCISD enacts the Child Find/Child Serve program
Child Find/Child Serve is a requirement for school districts to regularly identify, locat and appropriately place children and students with special needs. Bridge City ISD wants to effectively meet these requirements. The community is encouraged to Call the Bridge City ISD Special Education Office at 735-1628 if they know of a child or young adult, ages 3-21, with a special need.
Downtown Orange to host Art in the Park
The 9th Annual Art in the Park Festival will be held in Downtown Orange on March 26. Early registration is encouraged and invitations have been mailed. Artists and crafters will line up along the inside and outside edges of Stark Park on Green Ave. for a day of display, demo and selling of artworks. Local, area and regional participants tend to enjoy this early season outdoor event. Blues and jazz bands perform on stage throughout the day. Food vendors offer tasteful items to refresh everyone. Kid’s Alley offers children hands-on activities they may take home.

Income tax assistance
The AARP Tax Filing Assistance Program has begun at the Orange Public Library. Trained volunteers will be available from 12:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday through April 15.
Anyone seeking assistance should bring the following: All W-2 and 1099 forms including Social Security Benefits statements; records of capital gains and losses; receipts of medical expenses, taxes paid, interest paid, contributions, causality and theft losses, and Social Security cards for dependents. Also a copy of their 2009 tax return is preferred because it is helpful to the volunteers prepare for the 2010 return.
Electronic filing will be available. No tax returns will be started after 4 p.m.
American Legion to host pool tournament
The American Legion Lloyd Grubbs Post 48 in Orange will be hosting a pool tournament every Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight. There is a $5 entry fee, ten players maximum. The community is encouraged to join in the fun and free food to help support the Veterans. For more information, call 409-330-4847.
Former DuPont Instrument Employees Reunion
The annual reunion of former DuPont instrument employees will be held Tuesday, March 1 at JB’s BBQ in Orange. The group will meet in the parking lot at around noon to visit and will move inside at 1 p.m. In the event of bad weather, please plan to arrive at 12:45. Attendees will pay for their own lunch selection through the serving line.
If you are a retired or former DuPont or INVISTA instrument employee, you are invited to attend this reunion. Visitors are welcome.

Orange Trade Days to host show weekend of Feb. 18
Orange Trade Days will be hosting their next show on Feb 18-20. Along with their wonderful monthly event of Flea Market, Food and Fun, they are also going to be fundraising for St Judes. Orange Trade Days will be donating ten percent of their Concession Sales to St Jude. Bordwells Custom Leather & Wood works will be hosting a raffle for a beautiful custom made birdhouse and tiger wood domino set, Bling All Over Boutique will be donating 10 percent as well. WOS Baseball Alumni game set for Feb. 19
All former WO Chiefs, Lutcher Stark Tigers, and WOS Mustangs are invited to play. Dust off your gloves and come out and play. Come meet the 2011 Mustangs and visit with former players on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Ronnie Andeson Park. Registration and warm-up starts at 1 p.m. and the game starts at 2 p.m. Participation costs $25, which includes a t-shirt. The homerun derby will follow the game. Cost for the game, the shirt and the homerun derby is $35.
Family and friends are invited to come out and show their support.
The concession stand will be open selling hotdogs, links, and all of your other favorite baseball foods. Admission is FREE! Come and support our WOS Baseball Team!!!

MCT Credit Union – Scholarship Applications
The MCT Credit Union Scholarship Program has been established to provide eight area high school graduates with a $1,000 scholarship to help with the funds needed to attend college. MCT is committed to investing in the future of our teens through this program.
The applicant must be a graduating senior and a current member of MCT Credit Union with accounts in good standing.
The MCT 2011 scholarship applications are available at high school counselors’ offices in Jefferson, Hardin and Orange counties as well as all MCT branch locations. The deadline to return applications is March 31.

SE Texas Arts Council to host grant writing workshop
The Southeast Texas Arts Council will hold its first grant writing workshop Feb. 26, 2011 at the Foundation for Southeast Texas building located at 700 North Street, Meeting Room 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Any non-profit organization in Jefferson, Orange or Hardin County with plans to offer a fine arts or humanities program is eligible to apply.
Any new organization must attend one of the workshops.
A second workshop in March will be announced soon.

American Legion Post 49 to host American Dream Karaoke
The American Legion Post 49 proudly presents The American Dream Karaoke featuring Patty Ferguson on Saturday, Feb. 19 from 8 p.m. to midnight. American Legion Post 49 to host fried fish lunch
The American Legion Post 49 will host a plate lunch on Friday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be serving fried fish, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans and bread for $7 per plate. They will deliver and walk-ins are welcome. Those interested need to call before noon on Thursday, Feb. 17 and those wanting deliveries must call before 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. Delta Kappa Gamma News for February
The February chapter meetings of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in Orange will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15. All chapters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Theta Chapter will meet in the home of Theresa Beauchamp for a program led by Camille Fuller, entitled “February-A Healthy Month for Women.” Theta Omega Chapter will gather in the Café at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center and attend the “Saving Our American Raptors” program presented by Doris Mager. The chapter of Theta Psi will be led by Judy Williams in a program entitled, “Love Makes the World Go Round” at the home of Alana Peddy. Members of the three educational honor society chapters may contact their chapter presidents for more information.
Orange VFW to offer free Wii Bowling
Orange VFW is offering free Wii Bowling for members and their guests on Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m. in the clubroom. American Association of University Women to host annual book sale
The Orange branch of The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will have their annual book sale on Saturday, March 26 in conjunction with Art In The Park. Anyone able to donate any gently used books are asked to drop them off at Mann Insurance Agency, 1505 Park at 15th Street in Orange. If pickup is needed, call 409-886-5739 or 409-886-2194 in Orange or 409-842-8209 in Beaumont. All proceeds from the sale go toward the annual scholarship fund.
Lutcher Stark Bengal Guards to meeting Feb. 18
The Lutcher Stark Bengal Guards, years 1935-1944, will have their monthly meeting at Roberts’ Steak House on Park in Pinehurst. The meeting will start at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. All members are urged to attend.
Benefit for Collen Buckley set for March 19
There will be a benefit dinner and auction on Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Colleen Buckely at the Fraternal Order of Eagles facility located at 803 N. 28th St in Orange. Colleen is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and this benefit will raise money to help cover expenses during her treatment.
The live auction and raffle will begin at 1 p.m. and live music will be provided by various artist.
A barbecue plate ($7), chip beef sandwich ($5) and sausage links ($5) will be sold. Advance orders will be taken for deliveries.

Deweyville Public Library book sale set for Feb. 18-20
The Deweyville Public Library will have it’s semi-annual Book Sale February 18-20 at the Orange Trade Days.
It will be held inside the old Weingarten’s store at 200 Turret off Simmons drive in Orange from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. They will be in booth #70 and will have lots of books for sale. Hardbacks are $1 each, paperbacks are 5 for $1 and children’s books are $1 each unless otherwise marked. Their next book sale will be in October, so come on out and see what you need before then.
Orange Chapter of DAR to meet
The William Diamond Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution of Orange will have their monthly meeting Monday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at 4464 Memorial Drive in Orange. The program for the meeting is ‘Show and Tell’ with a picture of your favorite ancestor. Any woman 18 years of age or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Anyone interested in becoming a member is encouraged to attend.
