Man arrested in Pinehurst with 250 Lbs. of pot
Wednesday afternoon. at approximately 12:18 P.M., Pct. 2 Constable Robert Strause and Lieutenant Keith Reneau of the Pinehurst Police Department, observed a white Ford Taurus traveling east on I-10 at a speed of 78 MPH in a 70 MPH zone.
Lt. Reneau stopped the vehicle around the 873 mile marker in Pinehurst and saw that the driver of the Taurus appeared very nervous and could not produce a driver’s license on request.
While questioning the subject, officers became suspicious of his story and the account of his travels. Constable Strause asked for permission to serch the vehicle and was allowed to do so.
During the search, investigators located several black trash bags, each containing a leafy green substance, believed to be marijuana.
The total amount of the drug is estimated to be 250 pounds with a street value of $400,000.00.
The name of the driver is being withheld pending arraignment.
