The LCM Bear Iron Powerlifting Team took it to the competition last night at Orangefield. The girls team just edged out the host of the meet, Orangefield, to finish in first place overall.

Members of the team are: Maggie Lucia(1st Place), Kiera Carter(4th Place), Becky Davis(1st Place), Anika Marshall(3rd Place), Maygan Crosslin(1st Place), Kelly Kaufman(2nd Place), and Simone Mullins(1st Place). Standouts were Junior, Maygan Crosslin and Freshmen, Simone Mullins who won Outstanding Lifter on the light and heavy platform for the girls division.

With some of their best lifters taking the night off the Bear Iron boys also did quite well with Connor Jaynes, Tanner Potter, and Tyler Howlett finishing in 3rd place and Patrick Herfurth and Cameron Allen taking home 1st place medals.

Others scoring points for the boys were: Spencer Martin and Stephen Gilbeaux finishing in 4th and Brad Bergeron and Farrin Lawrence coming in 5th. Senior Cameron Allen was named as the Outstanding Lifter on the heavy platform for the meet. Cameron turned out a great performance totaling 1,565 lbs. and benching a meet high 405 lbs!

After the meet Coach Reed said, “We are really proud of the progress our lifters have made throughout the season. We had three kids put big numbers up tonight, Patrick Herfurth, Cameron Allen, and Simone Mullins, they did a lot to bolster their regional standings. We have one more meet at the end of this month to qualify for the regional meet and we can’t wait to see where we stand when the dust settles.”
