Bertie Sanders went joyfully unto the Lord, Monday, Feb. 21. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 24, 5 – 8 pm at Forest Lawn. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 25, 1 pm at First Baptist Church in Vidor, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
She lived a long, full life and blessed many with her faith and compassion. Bertie was born Oct 10, 1911 in Singer, LA to Rev. Jasper and Adaline Nelson. She was the 4th child born out of 12. Bertie graduated from Hotel Dieu as an LVN in 1929. She enjoyed almost 50 years as a nurse in the Golden Triangle, having worked for doctors and home health as well as Beaumont Medical and Surgical Hospital from its inception, until her retirement.
Bertie was a member of First Baptist Church Vidor, where she was very active in the choir.She was a longtime resident of Rose City, where she grew her own vegetables and made magic in the kitchen. Her creed was all about healthy living and exercise, which afforded her such a long life.
Bertie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Harold Beeson, her parents, and 9 siblings.
She is survived by her brother, Prentice Nelson of Houston, and sister, Claudia Bellah of Rose City; granddaughters, Rhonda Beeson Moore and Mariah Beeson Colbert, both of Beaumont; great grandchildren Jasmine and Elizabeth Moore of Beaumont, Jennifer Moore of Groves, Trevor Beeson of Vidor, Zayda Colbert of Beaumont, and 1 great great grandson, Noah Tidwell of Beaumont.
She also has many nieces and nephews locally, as well as all over the US, and numerous friends throughout the Golden Triangle. She never met a stranger.
