Mauriceville students visit nation’s capital
Twenty-eight Mauriceville Middle School eighth graders spent spring break exploring Washington D.C. According to Sherry Mallory, the teacher who organizes the yearly trip, this is the fourth year that she has spear-headed the trip to the nation’s capitol.
This year’s adventure included a tour of the White House and a trip to the Viet Nam Memorial Wall, where students took rubbings of the names of some who died during that war. Students also met with Belinda Burney Culberson, an LCM graduate who is the wife of Texas Congressmen John Culberson.
Students were able to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and while there, they watched the Brazilian Defense Minister, accompanied by his military entourage and honor guards from all the U.S. military branches, also lay a wreath.
