Driver of vehicle stolen in La., arrested in Orange
Thursday evening, Orange police were contacted by the Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana Sheriff’s Department about a stolen vehicle. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s officers were in pursuit headed west into Orange, on IH-10. Orange officers immediately responded to assist.
After the suspect drove the stolen vehicle into Texas, he caused two traffic accidents, then abandoned the car in the middle of the interstate near the FM 3247 overpass. The suspect then ran into a wooded area.
Officers from the Orange, West Orange and Pinehurst police departments set up a perimeter around the wooded area near Community Church. A K-9 unit from Calcasieu Parish arrived on the scene and the officer began searching the area with the dog.
The suspect, who was identified as 25 year old Nathan McCoy of Port Arthur, was soon located, and began running through the woods but was quickly taken into custody.
Orange police arrested McCoy and charged him with unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest in a vehicle. Both are felony charges.
Additional charges are pending through the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office as the car was reported stolen from Lake Charles.
Nobody was seriously injured during the incident.
