Louisiana woman arrested for DWI
Friday evening, Orange police officer Jonathan Baggett was contacted through police radio by Officer Steele to assist with a vehicle stop in the area of 10th St. and Park Ave. Upon arrival at the scene, Officer Steele was talking with a black female who had been stopped for a traffic violation, whom Officer Steele believed to be driving while intoxicated.
Officer Steele requested assistance to determine if the driver was capable of operating the vehicle.
Baggett made contact with the driver, who was identified as Valerie Simon, 23, of Lake Charles. While speaking with Simon, Baggett could smell the strong odor of alcohol on her. Simon was asked to perform a series of tests to determine if she was able to drive. She consented.
During the tests, Officer Baggett observed that Simon failed to maintain her balance and was unsteady on her feet. She was transported to the Orange County Intoxilyzer Room for further testing.
Trooper Cooper with the Texas DPS administered Simon the test which revealed her to be over the legal limit of alcohol in the state of Texas. She was placed under arrest for DWI, and booked into the Orange County Jail.
