Copper theft reported by Mello Plumbing
Monday morning, Officer Christopher Cowart with the Orange Police Dept., responded to a call in the 400 block of John Ave. in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, Officer Cowart spoke with William Buckingham, who is an employee at Mello Plumbing.
Buckingham said the residence had been broken into and the copper pipes had been forcibly removed. It appeared that the thief had entered through a door that had been kicked in.
The copper pipes to the bath tub and the pipes from the lavatory had been cut out and removed. The entire outside air conditioning unit had been removed as well.
Buckingham told police that some neighbors had heard loud banging noises early Saturday morning. Police tried to contact the home owner, but was unsuccessful.
The damage was estimated to be approximately $6,000 – $7,000, and he wishes to pursue charges on behalf of Mello Plumbing if a suspect is caught.
