American Legion of host pool tournament
The American Legion Lloyd Grubbs Post 48 in Orange will be hosting a pool tournament every Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight. There is a $5 entry fee, ten players maximum. Orange VFW to offer free Wii Bowling
Orange VFW is offering free Wii Bowling for members and their guests on Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m. in the clubroom. Rape and Suicide Crisis Center to offer support group meetings
The Rape and Suicide Crisis Center of Southeast Texas will be hosting a support group for female survivors of sexual assault the first and third Wednesday of every month, starting at 5:30 p.m. Meetings will be held at the Foundation of Southeast Texas building, located at 700 North St. in downtown Beaumont.

WOS Class of 1971 plans reunion
The West Orange High School Class of 1971 has scheduled a 40th reunion for Saturday, July 9. The event will be held at the Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. E-mail and mail notices are forthcoming. Quite a few graduates have unconfirmed information.
The classes of 1970 and 1972 are also invited to attend.

Cinco de Mayo Pageant scheduled
The Mexican Heritage Society is sponsoring the Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Pageant, April 30, 2011. Ages zero to six months, seven months to one year old, two to three years, four to five years, six to eight years, nine to 12 years, 13 to 15 years, and 16 to 18 years. LCM to host special program meeting
A meeting will be held at the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Education Center (at the Special Programs building on the corner of MLK and FM 1130) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, to give representatives of private schools and parents who home school their children the opportunity to participate in planning and consultation for the federal Title 1 Part A and Title 2 Part A.
At 6 p.m., a consultation meeting will be held to discuss which eligible private school students will receive special education services, the services to be provided, how and where the services will be provided, and how the services provided will be evaluated.

Last two classes of Stark High School to reunite in July
The classes of 1976 and 1977, the last two years of students who attended Lutcher Stark High School, are planning the 35th Reunion of the Class of ’76, while at the same time merging with the class of ’77.
Events will begin Friday, July 15, for a mixer of students and spouses, with Saturday and Sunday to be days of continued events. A golf scramble is planned for Saturday morning, with a disc jockey and food finishing off the evening events. Sunday brunch will be a morning for final closing.

Miss Mercado Days Scholarship Pageant applications available
The Southeast Texas Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center Inc. of Port Arthur is announcing registration for the 2011 Miss Mercado Days Scholarship Pageant. The Southeast Texas Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center is proud to announce that they will be giving away six scholarships in this year’s Queen’s pageant. Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality will each receive a $100 scholarship, third runner up will receive a $250 scholarship, second runner up will receive a $500 scholarship, and first runner up will receive a $750 scholarship and Miss Mercado Days will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Girls will be represented in four age groups; Tiny Miss Division is five to eight years of age; Little Miss Division is nine to 12 years of age; the Teen Miss division 13 years of age to Junior in High School; and the Queen’s division Senior in High School to 21 years of age. The applicant must be of Hispanic descent such as Cuban, Central American, Mexican, Puerto Rico, South American, or Spanish.
Applications must be turned in no later than April 24. The pageants for all four categories is scheduled for Saturday May 21 at Memorial High School auditorium. Teen and Queen pageant categories consist of interview, fashion wear, formal wear and traditional Hispanic costume. Tiny and Little categories include fashion wear and traditional Hispanic costume.

Orange County Master Gardeners to meet
The Orange County Master Gardeners are having their annual plant sale on Saturday April 30 from 8 a.m. to noon at the old Sears parking lot. Phil Sauber from Beaumont will be there with citrus trees to sell again this year. There will also be roses, earthkind roses, trees, shrubs, butterfly plants, herbs, native plants, bedding plants, succulents, tropicals and ready to display hanging baskets and potted plants. The majority of the plants are grown by Master Gardeners and all reasonably priced. There will be an informational table to ask Master Gardeners questions about plants and gardening as well as information on how to become a Master Gardener. Come early for the best selection because the plants go quickly.
The money raised goes to fund some of the Master Gardener projects, such as starting Junior Master Gardener classes in the schools, buying gardening books for Orange County library, offering classes to the public and maintaining the demonstration beds at the Orange County Courthouse.
David Ess, Bridge City Strutter Golf Tournament set
David Ess and the Bridge City Strutters will be hosting their annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 21, at Babe Zaharias Golf Course in Port Arthur. The tournament will have a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. (Sign-in will be at 7:30 a.m.) and will be an 18 hole, four person scramble with prizes awarded. Entry fee is $200 per team, which includes the green fee, cart, food, drink and prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100, which includes a sign at the golf course and an ad in the Strutters Spring Review Program. Bridge City Strutter Clinic set for May 7
The Bridge City Strutters will be hosting a dance workshop for Pre-K through eighth grade students. It will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Bridge City High School Gym. The Strutters Dance/Drill Team will teach participants technique and a jazz dance. The participants are invited to dance in the Strutters Spring Review on Saturday, May 14. The cost is $30, which includes a “Future Strutter” T-shirt, and spring review ticket. Registration deadline is Friday, April 28. BC Athletic awards ceremony set
The Bridge City Cardinal Athletic Booster Club will host the Athletic Awards & Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday May 10. Habitat for Humanity charity golf set
The Greater Orange Area Habitat for Humanity will host their annual charity golf tournament on May 7 at the Sunset Grove Country Club, located at 2900 Sunset Drive in Orange.
The format is two person best-ball. Cost is $100 for a two person team. Gross and net prizes will be awarded. Mulligans and drinks on the course and lunch are included for participants.

LCM Theatre Dept. to host ‘The Marriage of Betty and Boo’
On Thursday and Friday evenings, April 21 and 22, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Theatre Department will present their award-winning one-act play, “The Marriage of Betty and Boo,” beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the LCM High School auditorium. Tickets are $3 per student and $5 for adults and may be purchased at the door.
WOS High School Athletic Banquet set for May 9
The West Orange-Stark High School Athletic Banquet, which is catered by Moncla’s, will be at 6:30 pm Monday, May 9 at the West Orange-Stark High School Cafeteria.
Male and female athletes from the current school year 2010-2011 will be honored. Each athlete will receive one free ticket. WO-S High School announces Awards Day Program
West Orange – Stark High School will hold an Awards Day Program on Thursday, April 21. The program will begin at 9 a.m. in the WO-S High School Varsity Gymnasium.
