Stark Museum of Art Offers Art Quest
The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, will offer free morning Art Quest classes for children this summer. The classes will be available for students entering grades 1-8. Advance registration is required and application forms are available for download online. Class space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Children entering grades 1-2 will be offered two hands-on art classes: “Cool Collage,” which meets July 19-21, and “All about Animals,” which meets August 16-18. Children entering grades 3-5 may participate in “Sensational Sculptures,” on June 28-30. This age group may also participate in the “Western Adventure” art class on Aug. 9-11. All four classes for elementary students will meet for three days from 9 a.m. until noon, and the lead teacher will be Amelia Wiggins, Educator, Public Programs.
Children entering grades 6-8 may participate in “Art Detectives,” which meets July 5-7 and 12-14. Students in this two-week class will take on the role of a detective and apply their skills of observation and deduction to art in the galleries. They also will participate in art-making activities and create a mystery scavenger hunt. This class for middle school students will meet for a total of six days from 9 a.m. to noon, and the lead teacher will be Elena Ivanova, Chief Educator.
Amelia Wiggins, Educator for Public Programs at Stark Museum of Art, encourages local families to sign up for Art Quest soon: “We have had many requests from parents to provide extra-curricular art classes for their children, and we are very excited to be able to offer this experience through Art Quest. We encourage parents to apply early by filling out the form available on our website.” Wiggins says that Art Quest sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications must be fully completed for acceptance into the classes. Final date for registration is June 17.
