BCCC to host annual golf tournament
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their annual golf tournament on Monday, June 20 at the Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. The shot gun tee will be at 8 a.m. and is going to be a four man scramble. Cost to play is $50 per player or $200 per team. Hole sponsorships are also available. Prizes will be given.

Senior Citizen Rally Day May 10
Texas AgriLife Extension Orange County and Committee on Aging will be hosting the 42nd annual Senior Citizen Rally Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday May 10 at the VFW Hall on Texas 87 in Orange. This years theme is “On the Hunt for Health.” Everyone who attends is encouraged to dress in camouflage to match the theme. The event is free to all senior citizens and includes fellowship, bingo, health screenings, entertainment and free gumbo for lunch.
Each year a man and a woman over 60 years of age is honored for their citizenship and contribution towards improving the community. Nominations are being accepted till April 26. In addition to the nominated awards we have changed it up this year and will be giving awards to the most festive dressed according to theme, traveled the farthest, most years attended along with other awards. BC cancels May 14 election
The City Council of Bridge City voted to cancel the May 14, 2011 general election at their April 5 regular council meeting. The city secretary certified that no proposition was to appear on the ballot, no person had made a declaration of write-in candidacy, and all of the following candidates are unopposed for election to the following offices: Place 1: Kevin Mott; Place 3: Robert Simonton Jr.; Place 5: Richard Savoy (Incumbent). Heavenly Hearts Charity Pageant set for July 9
The 2011 Heavenly Hearts Summer Kings and Queens Charity Pageant will be held July 9 at the Bridge City Community Center in Bridge City. Entries will be accepted until June 24. Early entries receive large discounts on the entry fee.
Age divisions for boys and girls are from babies through adults with no residency requirement.
Heavenly Hearts is a state registered pageant title.
Crowns, trophies, embroidered sashes, plaques, and gifts will be awarded. Every contestant will receive a tiara.
This pageant will benefit the Bridge City-Orangefield Ministerial Alliance. Contestants and spectators are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food or personal hygiene item to distribute to the needy of the area, and will receive a discount on door admission with their donation.

American Legion to host lunch fundraiser
On Friday, May 6, the American Legion Post 49, located at 108 Green Ave in Orange, will host a lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lunch will include smoke chicken quarters, dirty rice, coleslaw, green beans, bread and a dessert for $7 per plate. Walk-in’s are welcome and deliveries are also available. Please call 409-886-9861 after noon on Thursday, May 5 and before 9 a.m. on Friday, May 6 for delivery or to place an order. All proceeds go back into the American Legion Post 49 which is a non-profit Veteran organization.
American Legion of host pool tournament
The American Legion Lloyd Grubbs Post 49 in Orange will be hosting a pool tournament every Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight. There is a ten player maximum. The community is encouraged to join in the fun and free food to help support the Veterans. For more information, call 409-330-4847.
Orange VFW to offer free Wii Bowling
Orange VFW is offering free Wii Bowling for members and their guests on Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m. in the club room. Rape and Suicide Crisis Center to offer support group meetings
The Rape and Suicide Crisis Center of Southeast Texas will be hosting a support group for female survivors of sexual assault the first and third Wednesday of every month, starting at 5:30 p.m. Meetings will be held at the Foundation of Southeast Texas building, located at 700 North St. in downtown Beaumont.

WOS Class of 1971 plans reunion
The West Orange High School Class of 1971 has scheduled a 40th reunion for Saturday, July 9. The event will be held at the Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. E-mail and mail notices are forthcoming. Quite a few graduates have unconfirmed information.
The classes of 1970 and 1972 are also invited to attend.

Last two classes of Stark High School to reunite in July
The classes of 1976 and 1977, the last two years of students who attended Lutcher Stark High School, are planning the 35th Reunion of the Class of ’76, while at the same time merging with the class of ’77.
Events will begin Friday, July 15, for a mixer of students and spouses, with Saturday and Sunday to be days of continued events. A golf scramble is planned for Saturday morning, with a disc jockey and food finishing off the evening events. Sunday brunch will be a morning for final closing.

Bridge City Little League announces Board election
BCLL will hold the 2012 board elections May 21, at 1 p.m. in the league’s board room.
There is a signup sheet and job descriptions in the board room for candidates that want to register to run for a board position. Sign up for the position you are interested in.
Persons eligible to vote are elected members of the board, managers, coaches, approved volunteers, volunteer umpires and parents/guardians of children participating in the league.
The 2012 board will be seated on the first Monday after the last 2011 all star game.

David Ess, Bridge City Strutter Golf Tournament set
David Ess and the Bridge City Strutters will be hosting their annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 21, at Babe Zaharias Golf Course in Port Arthur. The tournament will have a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. (Sign-in will be at 7:30 a.m.) and will be an 18 hole, four person scramble with prizes awarded. Entry fee is $200 per team, which includes the green fee, cart, food, drink and prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100, which includes a sign at the golf course and an ad in the Strutters Spring Review Program. Bridge City Strutter Clinic set for May 7
The Bridge City Strutters will be hosting a dance workshop for Pre-K through eighth grade students. It will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Bridge City High School Gym. The Strutters Dance/Drill Team will teach participants technique and a jazz dance. The participants are invited to dance in the Strutters Spring Review on Saturday, May 14. The cost is $30, which includes a “Future Strutter” T-shirt, and spring review ticket. Registration deadline is Friday, April 28. The Bridge City Cardinal Athletic Booster Club will host the Athletic Awards & Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday May 10. Habitat for Humanity charity golf set
The Greater Orange Area Habitat for Humanity will host their annual charity golf tournament on May 7 at the Sunset Grove Country Club, located at 2900 Sunset Drive in Orange.
The format is two person best-ball. Cost is $100 for a two person team. Gross and net prizes will be awarded. Mulligans and drinks on the course and lunch are included for participants.

WOS High School Athletic Banquet set for May 9
The West Orange-Stark High School Athletic Banquet, which is catered by Moncla’s, will be at 6:30 pm Monday, May 9 at the West Orange-Stark High School Cafeteria.
Male and female athletes from the current school year 2010-2011 will be honored. Each athlete will receive one free ticket. Cajun French Music Association to give scholarships
High School seniors and students currently attending an accredited college/technical school may apply to receive a scholarship from the The Cajun French Music Association of Louisiana, Inc. Gulf Coast Cajun Chapter.
They will award two $500 scholarships to any accredited college or technical school in the area for the 2011 fall semester.
Students must contact their school counselor. The deadline is May 15, no exceptions will be made and envelopes post marked after that date will not be accepted.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society chapters to meet
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International chapters of Orange County will meet together for the final meeting of the school year. The educational honor society for women will celebrate together the founding of Delta Kappa Gamma in 1929 in a Founder’s Day Celebration on Saturday, May 14. Beginning at 10 a.m., members will honor the history of the founders and acknowledge the work of the three chapters and their officers from the past year. The celebration will also include a brunch and will be held at the Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. Coordinating Council Chairman Olga Graham will be the facilitator of the celebration. Orange County Retired Teachers to meet May 9
The May meeting of the Orange County Retired Teachers Association will be held on Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 37th Street in Orange. Ann Copelin will conduct the Installation of Officers for 2011-2012. Each member will bring a White Elephant gift for a special drawing. The occasion will conclude with a covered dish luncheon.
OCP presents HAIRSPRAY
The Orange Community Players, in partnership with Lamar State College- Orange, are proud to present the South East Texas premiere of HAIRSPRAY, the 2003 Tony Award winning musical, May 12-14, at 7:37 p.m., and May 15 at 2:37 p.m., and May 19-21, at 7:37 p.m., and May 22, at 2:37 p.m., at the Orange Community Playhouse, 708 W. Division Avenue.
The popular musical is based on the 1988 John Waters film, and follows the lovable story of pudgy teenager Tracy Turnblad, and her yearning to be on a local dance show during the turbulent civil rights movement of the early 1960s. The production, under the direction of Brook Doss, involves a cast of over 40 performers from all over the Golden Triangle. Tickets are $8 for students, and $15 for adults. Bridge City HS Class of 1991 to host 20 year reunion
The 1991 graduating class of Bridge City High will hold their 20 year class reunion on the weekend of Aug. 12-13. There will be a private party at Madison’s in Beaumont at 8 p.m. on Aug. 12. A family skating party will be held at Spinnin’ Wheels in Orange at 11 a.m. on Aug. 13. The reunion will end with a party at Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange at 7 p.m. on Aug 13.
