Man arrested for failure to identify
Saturday evening, Officer Perry Byrun, with the Orange Police Dept., was dispatched to HEB in the 2400 block of 16th St., another officer having a subject detained for theft.
While en route, Officer Byrun heard Detective Sgt. Arnold request a check through dispatch to determine if the subject had a criminal trespass warning from HEB.
The man being detained gave Detective Sgt. Arnold the name James Martin, which didn’t return any driver’s license information, or trespass information under that name.
Police advised dispatch that the subject had intentionally given a false name, and was aware he had outstanding warrants.
When Officer Byrun arrived on the scene, Detective Arnold requested a second check through dispatch using the subject’s correct name, Scott Kyle Padgett, 47, of Orange.
This check showed no trespass warnings, but did have two separate outstanding warrants or violation of a criminal trespass and theft.
Padgett was placed under arrest for failure to identify: fugitive from justice intentionally giving false information, and for the outstanding Orange County warrants.
Padgett was transported to the Orange County Jail, where was booked without further incident.
