Turkey Time is coming. Thinking back to the time when I was a child and all of my sisters and brothers, were gone it was my it was my time to catch the turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner. The turkeys always roosted on the fence so I’d go out there at night; catch one; lock its feet together; and put it in the pen so Papa could get it ready for Mama to prepare for dinner. We always had turkey and dressing and sweet potato pie.
I guess I grew up thinking that was all you were supposed to eat for Thanksgiving, because that became my habit for years. I can remember when Mama came to visit and I made gumbo. She tried it but finally said “I guess this is supposed to be good, but I can’t eat it.” I have learned how to make a few more things.
One of them is banana bread.
1 cup shortening 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 1 1/2 cups real ripe bananas 2 1/2 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp. soda 1 tsp. salt spices of your choice Bake in loaf pan on 350 for 30 minutes.
Hope you enjoy this Gooder’n Syrup cake. Von
