Monday evening at 10:20, Orange police were dispatched to Circle F in regards to identity theft. Upon arrival, Officer Theodore Hilyar met with the victim, Jose Villaneuva, of Orange.

Villaneuva told Officer Hilyar that he received a call from a collection agency stating he had a delinquent cell phone bill.

DCI Collection Agency told the victim that he owed a cell phone bill in the amount of $1,105.45 to Sprint Wireless phone services. The man told officers her did not have a current Sprint account, nor has he been delinquent in his payments.

Villanueva told police that he called Sprint customer services and found out someone had opened an account in January, using his driver’s license number and social security number without his authorization.

Villanueva spoke with Sprint’s fraud dept., who advised him to file a police report concerning the incident. He was also advised to contact TXDOT and Social Security Services to report identity theft.

Villanueva said he would pursue charges against any and all individuals involved.
