Orange man receives 40 years for attempted murder
An Orange man was convicted of attempted capital murder.
Horace Dempsey, 19, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for severely beating his 51 year old grandmother, Sylvia Vaughns, in April.
Dempsey fled to his mother’s home in Miami after beating his grandmother on April 5. He was picked up there on April 8.
Sylvia Johns, who survived the attack, was found after she had been badly beaten in her Mill St. home. Half of her body is now paralyzed, she lost an eye, a finger, and all of her teeth.
A capital murder conviction carries a sentence of up to life in prison.
