The Celebration of Life for Mr. Earl Melebeck, 70, of Pearland, will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie A.E. Crockett, Sr., pastor, will officiate.

Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.

He died Jan. 5, at Houston Hospice in Houston. A native of Abbeville, LA, he was raised in Orange and was a 1960 graduate of Emma H. Wallace High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was Discharged with Honors.

A graduate of Bishop College of Dallas, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. Retiring from the Social Security Administration after 41 years of service, he served as Deputy Regional Commissioner for the Dallas Region, which consisted of the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. A member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, he held numerous offices in the organization.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Melebeck of Pearland, three children, Yvette Shillow of Abbeville, LA, Veronica Melebeck of Pearland, and Earl A. Melebeck (Davnee) of Lawton, OK; three brothers, Lloyd Gums, Roy Gums, and Henry Gums, all of Austin; four sisters, Elvina Allen and Regina Chargois, both of Orange, Myrtis Gums and Florida Gums, both of Austin; a brother in-law, Kenneth Williams of Orange; a devoted cousin, Rita Reaux of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
