Monday, Jan. 30, at 9:49 p.m., Officer Patrick McDonald was on the scene of an aggravated assault, along with Capt. Enmon, and Officer DeVault.

Officer DeVault was in the parking at 111 pine talking with a black female who was possibly involved in the incident.

Another black female, who was identified as Maurissa Waits, 33, or Orange, began to run toward the other black female while raising her hand and curling it in a fighting position. Police quickly grabbed Waits, securing her hands behind her back and placing her on the ground.

While detaining Waits, police observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person. As Waits was assisted to her feet, she was also found to be very unsteady, and having to lean against the police vehicle for support.

As Waits attempted to speak, she had slurred speech and also to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. She also made several statements that she had “been partying with her cousin.”

Due to Waits physical demeanor and prior actions, she was believed to be intoxicated to the degree that she could harm herself or others and was placed under arrest for public intoxication.

She was transported to the Orange County Jail and released to jail staff, and booked in.
