Entergy facility hit by copper thieves
Thursday, Feb. 16, Officer Patrick McDonald with the Orange police Dept, was dispatched to the Entergy Sub-station in the 600 block of Gunstream, in reference to a burglary.
Officer McDonald made contact with the complainant Randall Thompson upon arrival. Thompson, who is the office coordinator for Entergy, told police that about 9:00 a.m. a contractor advised him of missing copper ground wire. Thompson said that the wire is underground and connects to the towers for a ground.
It is believed that someone entered the facility, and pulled the ground wire out with a rope. Thompson believes that the last time the wire was intact was between Feb. 13 and Feb. 15, during the week while contractors were present on site.
The wire that was stolen had no coating on it, and was just thick copper wire. About 300 feet of the wire, valued at $4,000 was taken from the facility.
There was no suspect information available at the time, but Thompson said that on behalf of the company, he would pursue charges if a suspect was located.
