BC, OF students taught importance of water safety
With warmer weather quickly approaching, students at Orangefield Elementary School learned a serious safety lesson, but in a fun way. The Rotary Club of Bridge City and Orangefield presented a program reflecting on water safety.
The program was presented to Pre-k and kindergarten students at Bridge City and Orangefield school districts recently. The book Josh the Baby Otter, was written with the intent of bringing forth the need for water safety training to young people.
The book was written after a family tragically lost their 2 1/2 year old son in an accidental pool drowning despite every safety precaution known being in place. Nothing replaces talking to your child. In addition to Superintendent Phillip Welch sharing the story with the students, Josh the Otter gave each child a book and CD with the safety songs that he shared.
