Wednesday, March 14, Orange police were dispatched to the 1600 block of 16th St. in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival, Officer Byrun Perry made contact with the store manager.

The manager of the store told police that an employee of the store observed a woman in the deli area who was believed to be a shoplifter from several nights prior to Wednesday.

In a witness statement, the employee said that she observed the female, who was identified as Lauren Shafer, proceed toward the front of the store carrying items that had not been purchased. As the female passed through the front entry of the store, the alarm system was activated.

The employee notified the store manager of the situation at this point, and the manager followed the Shafer out of the store, and stopped her from getting into her vehicle and leaving the area. The woman was advised she needed to come back into the store and return the merchandise.

After the store manager advised police that she would pursue charges, Officer Perry advised Shafer that she was being placed under arrest for Class B theft for merchandise totaling $115. Shafer was also issued a criminal trespass warning.

Property taken included daquiri mixes, soft drinks, steaks and DVDs.
