Ernest “Red” Knight, Sr., 87, of Port Neches, died Tuesday, March 20, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.

Born Aug. 4, 1924, in Raceland, LA, to Ella and Ernest C. Knight, he was a resident of the Mid-County area since 1944. Red was retired as an instrument supervisor in the oil industry and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He enjoyed anything that involved his children or grandchildren and sports, fishing and gardening. Red stood firmly behind the Astros and Rockets, no matter what.

He is survived by his sons, Ernie Knight, Jr. and his wife, Pam of Nederland and Chris Knight and his wife, Faye of Bridge City; grandchildren, Dusty Knight and his wife, Tracy, Ginger Manhart and her husband, Dustin, Christopher Knight and his wife, Jennifer, Tony Knight and his wife, Shawn, T.J. Knight and his wife, Selena, Cody Knight and his wife, Lauren, Jamey Knight and his wife, Kari, Chuck Uzzle and his wife, Leslie, and Amanda Uzzle; 18 great- grandchildren; brother, Earjie Knight; sister, Wida Prejean; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances Victoria Knight; brother, Lawrence Knight; and daughter-in-law, Annalee Knight.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 24, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at Broussard’s.
