BC motorcyclist dead following accident
A 61 year old Bridge City man died in a motorcycle accident at about 10 p.m., Wednesday night. George Carlton Dronett, father of Bridge City football stand-out Shane Dronett, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at South Hwy. 87 and FM 1006.
Dronett was driving south on his 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he came up on a vehicle pulling a lowboy trailer with no rear lights. Dronett tried to avoid hitting the trailer by veering into the median. He traveled about 100 feet when he hit an area of loose gravel and lost control of his motorcycle. Dronett was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the median while the motorcycle slid into the road.
Two nurses were driving behind Dronett when he had the accident and tried to help him, but he was dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
Dronett’s son, Shane, played football at Bridge City High School, and was named an All American player at the University of Texas before being drafted into the NFL. He played for the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. Shane died in January of 2009 in what was ruled a suicide.
