Vidor Police nab theft suspect

On Saturday, May 26, at about 11:30 pm, Vidor police were dispatched to the 300 block of W. Bolivar in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowner who stated that they witnessed a white male take their lawn mower.

The mower was taken from a truck that was under a carport of the home.

Shortly after, police located the truck at the In and Out Store in the 100 block of West Freeway. The mower was seen in the back of the truck. Officers made contact with the suspect, Sammy Wes Ashworth, 44.

The homeowner responded to the scene and identified the mower, then took custody of it. The owner of the mower is pursuing criminal charges against Ashworth.

Ashworth was arrested for Class B theft, and Class C public intoxication. Ashworth was transported to the Orange County Jail, where Judge Derry Dunn set bond at $1,000 for the theft and $500 for the public intoxication charge.
