Early morning fatal wreck shuts down Interstate 10 for hours

Officials have released the name of the driver who died in a head-on collision on IH-10 early this morning.

Billy Wayne Hight, 22, of Vidor was pronounced dead the the scene after his GMC pickup truck collided with an 18-wheeler.

According the information released by the Department of Public Safety, Hight entered the interstate going the wrong direction; the reason is still unclear.

Traffic on IH-10 was redirected as both eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down.

Both lanes opened up at approximately 11 a.m., but were shut down again within minutes due to another fatal wreck near FM1132.
