OHS physics students measure the distance to the ‘moon’

Last updated 10/17/2012 at Noon

Orangefield High School physics students participated in a rocket projectile lab as the culmination of a unit on kinematic work. The students measured the distance to the target (the “moon” – the yellow plastic trash can) to calculate the angle to set the rocket launcher.

The students measured 4 cc of ethanol to fire the rocket at the target. The winner was determined by how far the projectile landed from the target. The winning team was Macy Marlow, Rachell Johnson, Tiffany Sweet and Aaron Barnes. Their team actually hit the rim of the target.
