Reverend Leslie Gilbert Hooks, Sr., 83, of Jasper, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, in Jasper. He was born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Silsbee, to Rosella Hollyfield and Leslie Hooks. He was a Baptist Minister and worked in the oilfield business.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Hooks; daughters, Juanita Chance of Fred; Deborah Milligan and her husband, Robert, of Silsbee; and Mary Curtis and her husband, Eddie, of Silsbee; son, Mike Granger and his wife, Amanda, of Huntington.

He is also survived by grandchildren, CaSondra Menise Chance Simon “Sandy” and her husband, Steve, of Evadale; Andrew Leslie Melvin Hooks “Andy” and his wife, Kerry, of Spanaway, WA.; Leslie Gilbert Hooks III and his wife, Hannah, of Vidor; KaSheena Hooks Hollis and her husband, Jeremy, of Fort Collins, CO.; KaTreena Hooks Nolan and her husband, Keith, of Woodville; Buford Edward Curtis III “Trey” and his wife, Stephanie, of Silsbee; Brian Keith Curtis and his wife, Jennifer, of Silsbee; Stephen Allen Curtis and his wife, Courtney, of Lumberton; Joshua Lynn Granger, Chris Jenkins; Kadon Jenkins; and Cody Lilly, all of Huntington; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Verna Maye West Hooks; son, Leslie Gilbert Hooks, Jr.; parents; and brothers, Norman Hooks and Ralph Hooks.

The family would like to send special thanks to Lakes Area Hospice of Jasper, Timberlake Health and Rehabilitation, Military Honor Guard, and Silsbee Police Department.

A gathering of Reverend Hook’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, at Broussards, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Fred Community Cemetery.
