Ms. Betty Jean Reed Geter, 56, of Orange, passed away Nov. 28, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, after a battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 7, 1956 in Monroe, La., to Johnnie and Florence Reed.

She attended West Orange High School and graduated in 1976. She attended McKinley Avenue Job Corp, in McKinley, Tx., and returned home to continue her education at Lamar University Orange, to pursue Physical Therapy. She worked at Orange Memorial Hospital for 18 years and took a medical retirement.

She enjoyed studying the Word of God and sharing His word with those whom she knew and would meet. Betty never met a stranger, because everyone she encountered became a friend. She was a Member of Relay for life. She was a great cook, and she enjoyed keeping her granddaughter, Malasia, and cherished every moment of the time.

She is survived by her son, Derrick Lloyd Geter; one granddaughter, Malasia Lena’e Geter; parents Johnnie and Florence Reed; three sisters, Theresa Reed James, Jerrie Dean Curtis, and Vicki Phillips (Larry), all of Orange; three brothers, Larry Reed Sr, Jimmie Reed, and Johnnie Reed Jr., of Orange; several aunts and uncles, several nieces and nephews, and a great niece and great nephew.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Dec. 8, at noon at Power Praise Christian Center, 1311 North 10th Street in Orange, with Pastor Rickey Guillory officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to noon, with interment to follow at Magnolia Garden Center under the direction of Colonial Memorial Chapel.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to MD Anderson Hospital Sarcoma Oncology Staff, Harbor Hospice Beaumont, Harbor Home Health Care, and Ms Shirley Ray, for all the help provided in her time of need.
