Officers of the Orange Police Department received a call at 2:47 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31 about a 15 year old runaway juvenile in the Little Cypress area.

Officers located the runaway juvenile and he was in possession of a handgun, a 9x18mm pistol, that he had taken from his residence without permission. The juvenile was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon.

The juvenile voluntarily led officers to an abandoned house where he had stashed a .40 caliber handgun, a 12 gauge shotgun, and ammunition. These weapons were also taken from his residence without permission. The juvenile informed officers he was running away from home and a friend of his was going to run away with him.

The juvenile was a student at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School. Officers notified school authorities of the arrest, and worked with them in sending out notifications to the district.

Officers made contact with the “friend” (14 year old, also a student at LCM High School) at his residence. The friend confirmed that they had planned on running away but denied knowledge of any firearms.

The 15 year old was ordered detained in a juvenile detention facility by Judge Johnson. The 14 year old was interviewed at the Orange Police Department and released to his parents.

The investigation is still on-going.
