CCS hosts annual Lion’s Pride Run
Community Christian School hosted its fourth annual Lion Pride 5K and Kids’ 1K fun run at Claiborne Park on Saturday, March 16. Over 100 participants ran in the 5K, and about 40 kids in the kids’ race. Overall male and female winners in the 5k were Jonathan Owens with a time of 17:53, and Morgan Moore with a time of 21:53. On the Run, Beaumont’s specialty running store, donated a free pair of shoes to each of the overall winners.
Age didn’t matter for Ken Ruane, who is 71. He won the top Master’s spot (top runner over 40), and sixth overall. Lisa Chambes nabbed overall female Masters with a time of 24:48. The youngest participant in the 5K (3.1 miles) was five year old Emma Gerstenberg. The top three runners in each 10 year age group received a medal.
New to this year’s run was door prizes for the runners, donated by sponsors of the race. Lamps from Home Furniture, a picture package from Photos by Kara Michele, a free moonwalk rental from C&E’s, autographed pictures from the Elite Bass Masters, a personalized wreath from Anna Maria, and several Subway gift cards were among prizes given away. While the kids waited for their parents to finish running they were able to jump on a moonwalk and hang out with the Chick-fil-A cow.
The highlight of the morning was the 1K kid’s race. Kids of all ages smiled and grimaced to the finish line, followed by cheers from parents and onlookers. The youngest competitor was 2 year old Evie Jacob. Top finishers in the Kids’ 1k were Blaine Manucy and Lily Higgins.
Congratulations to all of the runners!
