Man arrested on Sabine River bridge on trespassing warrants

Last updated 3/31/2011 at Noon

Wednesday afternoon, Orange police were dispatched to the area of the Sabine River bridge in reference to a subject who appeared to be preparing to jump from the bridge.

When Officer Matthew Reeves arrived on the scene, he observed a white male walking west bound on the east bound side of the bridge.

The man verbally identified himself as Randall Stewart. Police said the man did not appear to be trying to jump and did not indicate that he had any suicidal tendencies. The man continually stated he was fine.

A routine check on the man did reveal that he had possible warrants out of Jefferson County for trespassing, so police detained him until the reports could be confirmed.

Once confirmed, Stewart was placed into custody and transported to the Orange County Jail, where he was released the custody of jail staff.
