OC Sheriff Posse Rodeo set for the weekend

Last updated 7/17/2013 at Noon

The annual Orange County Sheriff Posse 2013 Rodeo will be held at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20 at the Orange County Sheriff Posse Arena located on FM 105, one half mile east of Hwy 62 in Orange.

Every summer the OCSP rodeo offers an enjoyable family outing with something for all ages. This year among many of the door prizes that will be given away each night, one bicycle will be given away to each winner of the Calf Scramble and Lamb Scramble. Children up to 6 years of age are invited to participate in the Mutton Busting and children up to 12 years of age are invited to participate in the Calf Scramble and Lamb Scramble. Free stick horse races will be available for children five years of age and younger.

Teens may register for the ever popular Calf Dressing event by calling 409-781-1181. The first team to get the undergarments on the calf wins.

And for the adults, we have the Ribbon Run competition with the first ever Financial Institution Competition kicking off the event.

Five local financial institutions will be competing against each other: Community Bank, Dupont Goodrich Federal Credit Union, Sabine Federal Credit Union, MCT Credit Union and First Financial Bank (previously Orange Savings Bank).

The winner of the Financial Institution Competition will compete against the general public in subsequent Ribbon Run events each evening.

The Ribbon Run event consists of teams of two (one male and one female) who may enter for $10 per team with the goal of pulling the ribbon from a calf’s tail and crossing the finish line first.

The prize is 100 percent payback of the entry fees for each run.

To register your team, call 409-920-8324.

Rodeo events include: Junior Bull Riding, Team Roping, Tiedown Roping, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Breakaway, and Steer Wrestling. Negative EIA is required.

Each year the OCSP gives scholarships to deserving high school seniors who wish to pursue higher education. The primary means of raising scholarship funds is through the numerous and generous sponsors of the OCSP rodeo. Come out to see who has joined our primary sponsor, Precision Hydrovac Excavation, in supporting our annual rodeo and our community’s high school seniors.

Rodeo tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Parking is free. For additional rodeo information, call 409-886-2638.

The Orange County Sheriff Posse (OCSP) has been in existence for more than 64 years. The original founders and charter members created the OCSP to assist the sheriff’s department with search and rescue and continued as an organization that practices and performs drill maneuvers on horseback, participates in community activities, rides in parades and most importantly provides scholarships for high school seniors and gives back to the community through the annual rodeo.
