Beautifying Orange for 60 years

Alvin Johnson

Born in Center in 1925 and arriving in Orange in 1941 Alvin Johnson has worked many jobs including a long stint with the railroad and another with American Bridge.

For sixty plus years throughout his 88 years of life he has continuously and consistently picked up trash on the streets of Orange sporting a straw hat in the summertime and in the winter wearing a warmer Santa Claus hat.

Collecting and recycling cans have allowed him to supplement his income; but money is not the reason he walks. He does it for the benefit of exercise and beautifies the streets at the same time.

He does not know how many miles he has walked over the years but as the tall, gangly Mr. Johnson says; “Exercise is good for you.”

Keep Orange County Beautiful, the local non-profit affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful is proud to recognize Mr. Alvin Johnson, as a Hometown Beautification Hero.
