Today I, John Dubose, announce my candidacy for the position of Orange County Judge. This decision has been carefully considered. I have over 20 years of public service starting as a councilman for Bridge City, then Mayor, and for twelve years I served as Commissioner for Orange County Pct. 3. During that service as commissioner, I served as Judge Pro Tem for ten of those years.

My education has been through Lamar University and McNeese State University. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Lamar University in May 1970. In May of 1974, I earned a Masters of Business Administration Degree from McNeese State University. I am a Texas Certified Public Accountant. I have always considered myself to be financially conservative with a strong dose of fairness to both county employees and county taxpayers. I will be a candidate on the republican ballot.

Orange County has survived two devastating hurricanes as we all know. The county, like myself and many others had to repair or replace several buildings. While most of these costs were covered by insurance or grant funds, some county funds were necessary to complete these repairs and replace furnishings. To add to the issues of storm recovery, the economy both locally and nationally has been less than ideal in the past few years. Some budgeted revenue collections were less than expected. These factors along with others, have put the county in its current financial situation.

Adjustments in expenditures will be necessary to correct this problem. Some of these adjustments may be difficult

I do not want anyone to think that these changes will be easy. They won’t, and it will take some time before results are achieved.

However, with my qualifications and experience, I can assist in building a stronger county. For any effort to be successful, the cooperation of all employees and elected officials will be needed. I have seen this group of folks pull together in the past, they can, and I believe they will do it again to put Orange County back on track.

I am 66 years old and in good health. I am married to Joyce K. Dubose. We have raised two children in Bridge City and are now enjoying four grandchildren. My wife and I are members of Faith United Methodist Church.

I am the candidate with the experience, education and dedication to get this job done. I enjoyed my time working with the county team during the past twelve years and I look forward to serving with these folks once again.
