OPD investigates drowning

Shortly before 1:00 am Friday, Orange Police responded to the City of Orange Boat Ramp on Simmons Dr., in reference to a possible drowning. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a man had jumped into the water from the pier, and never resurfaced.
Police searched for several hours before finding the body of a black male in the Sabine River. The body was transported to the Jefferson County MOrgue for an autopsy.
The man's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An investigation is ongoing.
Police were assisted in the search by the Orange Fire Dept., OCSO, and District 3's fire dept. and dive team.
