Texas DPS releases holiday statistics

The Texas Department of Public Safety increased patrols during the holiday season to target impaired driving. The increased number of patrols from Dec. 13, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014 were funded through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.

During the Christmas/New Year enforcement effort, DPS troopers in Jasper, Jefferson and Orange counties made 28 DWI arrests combined, and reported no alcohol-related traffic crashes. However, Tyler county troopers reported one fatal crash near Colmesneil on January 1 where the driver was suspected to be impaired at the time of the crash.

During the Holiday season, reducing the deadly dangers from impaired drivers was a top priority as State Troopers were out in force to arrest those who put themselves and others on the road at risk.
