Texas A&M Agrilife to offer local programs
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office is holding the first Green Thumb series of 2014 starting on Jan. 21 at 10:00 am. The series will last for four weeks with all class dates on Tuesdays: Jan. 21, Jan. 28, Feb 4, and Feb 11. The class topics will include: Sprouts, Shoots, and Roots; Planning and Preparing your Garden Area; Structures for Planting Year Around; Thrillers, Spillers, and Fillers—Container Gardening; and Spice Up Your Life with Herb Gardening. The fee for the series is $30. This includes all class materials. Please call the Extension Office at 882-7010 if you are interested so that we can plan for the class materials.
The extension office is also holding a Tomato Grafting class. Come learn how to graft tomatoes to help them be disease resistant. The root stock that will be used is resistant to the eight common soil borne diseases for tomatoes. All tomato varieties can be grafted including your favorite. We will be using the varieties Super Fantastic, Celebrity, and Sweet 100. After plants “heal” you will get to take them home to plant and enjoy. This class will be held on Jan. 23 at 10:00 am. The fee for this class is $25 and this includes all class materials. Please call the Extension Office at 882-7010 if you are interested so that we can plan for the class materials.
