Jan. 27, 2014 - Beaumont, Texas – LifeShare Blood Centers at 4305 Laurel Ave., Beaumont, Texas is extending its hours today and asking the community to come donate blood in anticipation of lost donations as a result of the weather. The Beaumont blood donation center will be open until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

All blood drives are cancelled for Tues., Jan. 28, and the LifeShare donation center in Beaumont will also be closed on Tuesday. “By staying open late on Monday, we are hopeful enough donors will come after work or school to compensate for some of the loss Tuesday and keep up with patient use. Since blood cannot be used until it is tested and processed it must be given ahead of the need, which has a strong possibility of increasing when travel conditions are not safe” says Tina Hooper, spokesperson for LifeShare Blood Centers.

Since the first week of January the blood supply has experienced instability as a result of low donations during the winter holidays and flu season. The recent weather has put an added strain on the inventory available to the hospitals.
