The Bridge City Cardinal baseball team opened district 21-3A district play at home on Tuesday night against the Buna Cougars and the fans in attendance certainly got their moneys worth as the Cards secured a 4-3 victory. Bridge City sent Junior Chase Shugart to the hill for the start and the righty was on cruise control for most of the game racking up 12 strikeouts on his way to the win. Shugart got in some trouble in the 6th as the Cougars took advantage of some timely hits and a few Cardinal errors to score 3 runs and tighten up the contest. Shugart worked a clean 7th inning to finish up the victory and put the Cardinals in the district win column.

Bridge City was staked to an early lead as Senior designated hitter Sage Elmore hit a two out two run double in the first inning to plate Hunter Uzzle and Kyle Bergeron, both has reached base after being hit by pitches. BC would get on the board again as Ashton Hunter scored in the second after being walked and then sacrificed to 2nd by Blake Pruett. The Cardinals final run came on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Bergeron that plated Hunter Uzzle after he had been walked and then stole second.

The Cardinals improved their overall record to 11-2-1 and their district record to 1-0. Bridge City will have a fill in game with Woodville on Wednesday due to the fact that they have a bye in their district schedule this week.
