The countdown to summer is on, and now is the time to plan to make it a summer of fun for your children. There is no better way than to stimulate their creativity with exciting sessions at Summer ArtVentures Camp for Creative Kids at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET). This year’s line-up of week-long, half-day workshops, from June 17 through July 19, is more exciting than ever, with Native American pottery, 3-dimensional sculpture, drawing, painting and much more, all taught by professional artists.

ArtVentures is offered Monday through Friday with two workshops per day: morning classes are from 9 a.m. to noon; afternoons are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children ages 4-14 choose from many class options for a high quality, intensive art education experience. All courses are taught by professional artists, and the participants work closely with these respected artists in a variety of mediums.

Campers are divided into three age groups, with each course designed for age-appropriate art activities:

· Young ArtVenturers – children ages 4-7 – will use all the materials the big kids use such as clay, paint, printmaking and colored pencils to learn the basis of creating art through fun activities. Their activities will be on a level appropriate for their age. Classes are also augmented with art-related stories and outdoor activities.

· ArtVenturers – children ages 8-11 – have many exciting courses to choose from including drawing with 3-dimentsional illusion, painting and making Native American pottery.

· TeenVentures in Art – Keep your teens active and engaged in making art, a valuable life skill. TeenVentures in Art is a special week, July 1-5, just for 12 to 14-year-olds interested in exploring new and creative avenues with unconventional materials. The courses will allow the aspiring artists to create beauty with everyday objects and explore painting techniques from professional artists in those areas.

“Summer ArtVentures is a great opportunity for kids and teens interested in art to learn from professional artists while making their own artwork to show off to their parents,” said AMSET Curator of Education/Programs Christle Feagin.

The cost for Summer ArtVentures is $75 for members, $135 for non-members for the first child’s first class, $75 for each additional child and then $70 for each additional class. The non-member fee includes a one-year family membership. Scholarships are also available.

A complete course description list and registration forms can be found online at http://www.amset.org or by calling (409) 832-3432.

Through unique collections, exhibitions, public programs and outreach in the visual arts, the mission of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas is to provide education, inspiration and creative vision throughout Southeast Texas.
