NWS expecting showers, thunderstorms

Last updated 7/31/2014 at Noon

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening and overnight, beginning in east Texas and central Louisiana, and moving south to the I-10 corridor.

High chances for showers and thunderstorms will be in the forecast through the weekend. As much as one-three inches of rain will be possible. Some street flooding could occur. There will be just an isolated threat for strong to severe thunderstorms.

Next week will continue rain chances, but the showers and thunderstorms will be more scattered in coverage. Temperatures will be near normal.

In the tropics, a weak low pressure system in the tropical Atlantic has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm in the next five days. This system is primarily a threat for the eastern Caribbean and Bahamas. It will not be a threat to us over the next seven days.
