NHC, NWS watching area of disturbed weather

Last updated 8/20/2014 at Noon

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring a cluster of showers and thunderstorms east of the Windward Islands. This system is slowly becoming better organized and could become a tropical cyclone in the next day or two. NHC currently gives this system a 50% chance of developing in the next two days and a 60% chance in the next five days.

This system is not expected to be in the Gulf of Mexico through Monday. Where it ends up beyond that, and how strong it will be, is highly uncertain at this point. The best advice is to stay vigilant and be prepared. Be careful with longer range weather models that can change significantly from one day to the next.
