Fall 2014 classes begin at Lamar State College-Port Arthur Monday and with them a fun, and possibly fattening Welcome Week. “It’s just a way for the students to get a taste for what they’ll be enjoying on campus year-round,” Claire Thomason, director of student activities, said of the Aug. 25-29 Welcome Week. All Welcome Week activities will take place in or just outside the Student Center at LSC-PA, 1500 Procter St. in downtown Port Arthur.

Representatives from Gator Country will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to noon Monday with all sorts of reptiles and water creatures. Tuesday, digital caricatures will be available free from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Texas Music Matters is sending a live DJ to entertain Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to noon and a free bungee run will be the center of attention from 9:00 a.m. to noon Friday.

Wednesday, coaches from LSC-PA’s three sports teams – volleyball, men’s basketball and softball – will introduce their players at a noon “Loud and Proud” pep rally. Each event will be accompanied by refreshments, with popcorn on the menu each day, cake on Wednesday, ice cream on Thursday and snow cones on Friday. The activities are hosted by LSC-PA’s Student Government Association and the Student Activities Department.

“We want our students to know that besides classwork, there are things they can be involved in and enjoy while they’re on campus,” Thomason said. “This gets them into school spirit and let’s them have a good first Seahawk experience.”
