LIT hosts Tx. Rice Fest welding contest
About 200 students from area high schools will converge at the LIT Tommy Williams Technical Training Buildings for the 2014 Texas Rice Festival Welding contest on Oct. 1
The Williams Technical Training Buildings are located at 4076 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway.
The competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. Welders will be divided up into two divisions: Junior, made up of 9th and 10th graders, and Senior, made up of 11th and 12th graders. The finished products will be judged on general weld appearance, including under cuts, bead appearance, size, ripples and porosity.
First place in each division will earn a belt buckle. Awards will be presented at LIT that day and will be announced at the festival on Oct. 4.
