It appears a Lake Charles man lost his life Sunday morning on Bailey Road in Bridge City.

Officials identified the man who died after his vehicle entered into the mouth of Lake Sabine on February 22, as 49-year-old Charles Huffman, according to Trooper Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Davis said there were skid marks on the roadway leading into the water. The road is narrow and both shoulders are surrounded by water.

The DPS, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Bridge City Volunteer Fire & Rescue were called to the scene in reference to a vehicle being found in the water around 11:35 a.m. A diver with the fire department entered the water to investigate and found a body in the vehicle.

The DPS speculates Huffman was driving his 1996 Pontiac southbound at a high rate of speed and lost control.

The body was taken to the Jefferson County Morgue for an autopsy. The investigation is still ongoing and no further details have been release.
